A Study on the Relationship between Health Locus of Control and Performance of Self-care

Abstract
This study was conducted to find out the performance of self care and its relationship `with Health Locus of Control as an influencing factor to their behavior. The data for this study obtained from 119 College students who have been studied public health. Research instruments used for this study were multidimensional Health Locus of Control scales developed by Wallston & Wallston and the measuring scale for performance of self-care by the researcher. Analysis of data was done by using ANOV A. Pearson¢¥s correlation coefficient. The results are as follows:
1. The Score of Health Locus of Control(HLOC) and Performance of self-care: The mean score of "Internals in HLOC was 22. 2, "Powerful `others" was 16. 0, "Chances" was 14.8 out of maximum range of 6-30 respectively. The mean score of Performance of self-care was 35.9 out of a maximum range of 12-60.
2. Test of Health Locus of Control on Performance of self-care: Negative correlation was found between the Performance of self-care and "Chances" score in HLOC, while "Powerful others" and "Internals" scores were not correlated with the Performance of self-care. Therefore, the ¢¥First hypotheses was supported.
3. Influence of general characteristics on Health Locus of Control: In the analysis of the relationship between general Characteristics and HLOC,
i) type of living was revealed as the influencing variables of "Internals Locus of Control.
2) Interaction of sex and type of living were revealed as the influencing variables of `powerfuI others" & "Chances" Locus of Control.
Finally, some recommendations were provided for further study.
1. Vlore valid and reliable tools for Performance of self-care are recommended for the better explanation of relationship between Health Locus of Control and Performance of self-care.
2. The addition of the other influencing variables in the relationship of Health Locus of Control and Performance of self-care is thought to be needed.
